Saving space by converting physical DVD's into digital files?

I'm a huge movie collector and over the last 20 years I've managed to accumulate a little over 1200 DVD's. I obviously won't have the space available to store over 1200 DVD's in a tiny house so I figured I'd just convert them all to digital files and save them to a hard drive. Unfortunately, I've tried Mac DVDRipper Pro, DVD Creator, and DVD Copy PRO - Rip & Shrink with no luck. They all managed to rip the movie from the DVD but the resulting video file was very poor and definitely not DVD quality.

I've tried all different settings in each of these three programs including the maximum quality settings available but I'm just not getting good quality video as a result. Does anyone know of a good program for Mac (Mojave) that would rip DVD's into digital files where the original video quality was maintained? I really don't want to give up my movie collection. Unfortunately, there's simply no way I'll have the space for my collection in a tiny house unless I'm able to convert them all to digital files stored on a hard drive. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Grant You might want to check out this website which shows some options for during DVDs into MP4 files. https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-to-convert-dvd-to-mp4/ You might also want to check out this detailed article on ripping DVDs to files. https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/ma...c-mac-3634696/ An external hard drive makes a great place keep all the files without taking up too many computer files. Just remember to follow all the rules on conversion since the copyright laws for digital files is still a hotly debated topic.

Thanks for the info Nikki. I'll have to give HandBrake a shot. I had previously searched the App Store for "DVD ripping" software but HandBrake does not show up in their search results so I had never heard of it. I just looked at the HandBrake website and see that they do offer it for Mac. Not sure why they've chosen not to make it available in the App Store? Probably losing a lot of sales as a result of not having their product listed with Apple. Anyway, thank you for the info, this looks promising!
